Random Lengths Lumber Market
Report
A mostly measured sales pace was reported
across the gamut of framing lumber species.
Modest upward momentum from activity in previous
weeks carried over in some cases, but soft spots
developed as well. Seasonal slowing was at the
heart of the lackluster pace, with wet and
wintry weather a factor in some regions. Timing
was also a factor, as buyers kept a close eye on
year-end inventory levels. Amid modest ups and a
few downs, the Random Lengths Framing Lumber
Composite Price edged up $1, to $343.

Random Lengths Panel Market Report
Structural panel prices faded amid lackadaisical trading.
Numerous OSB producers had loads available for quick shipment, and
they listened for counters to sell volume. Buyers lacked urgency,
citing a seasonal slowdown and sufficient inventories for the time
of year. Early trading was steady in Southern Pine plywood markets,
but sales were elusive in the latter half of the week. Western Fir
plywood buyers lacked urgency following the long holiday weekend.
Activity was uneven at best for most mills.
