Random Lengths Lumber Market
Report
Framing lumber traders who had anticipated a
stronger pace of sales coming out of the Labor
Day holiday were disappointed. Sales of
dimension and studs were slow across North
America, and many prices softened. In a number
of markets, what little demand that emerged was
focused on upper grades. Sales to truss
manufacturers were steady, and prices were
mostly firm to higher. However, the overall pace
was lackadaisical. The Random Lengths Framing
Lumber Composite Price was unchanged.

Random Lengths Panel Market Report
Structural panel prices fluctuated mildly amid lackadaisical
trading. OSB sales were lackluster in all producing regions
following the Labor Day holiday. Most traders cited extended
vacations and back-to-school distractions for the market’s quiet
tone. Southern Pine plywood sales were steady, but slower than many
traders anticipated. Mills fell back on order files and resisted
counters. Activity in western Fir plywood was slow coming out of the
long weekend, surprising traders who expected an active start to
September.
