Random Lengths Lumber Market
Report
Influences from month- and quarter-end were
pronounced in framing lumber, and price trends
varied greatly from species to species. In some
producing regions, recent cuts were sufficient
to convince buyers that the downside risk had
been wrung out of prices. This was most apparent
in green Douglas Fir, where prices of Std/#2&Btr
dimension had fallen $75-115 from record peaks.
Retailers and distributors in California hit
mills up for large volumes. Mixed trends were
evident in a number of species.

Random Lengths Panel Market Report
Structural panel trading faded as the week progressed. Upward
price momentum in OSB dissipated in the South late in the week. The
market’s fervent reaction to last week’s mechanical breakdown at
Martco’s plant in Oakdale, La. gave way to a calmer tone from
Wednesday on. Southern Pine plywood buyers lacked urgency amid
concern about further downside risk. Activity in western Fir plywood
was strong to start, as the pace from late last week carried over.
However, trading turned choppy by midweek and remained inconsistent
the rest of the week.
