Random Lengths Lumber Market
Report
An unprecedented January price run in framing
lumber continued with little sign of running out
of gas. A slower pace was reported at Canadian
S-P-F mills, but long mill order files and
transportation delays factored into a transition
toward buying focused on the secondary market.
Prices posted uneven gains. Meanwhile, gains in
the West were sharp and unrelenting, with some
in the $40s and even $50s for the week. Warmer
weather heated up Southern Pine sales,
especially in Texas, and prices posted strong
gains.

Random Lengths Panel Market Report
Robust sales fueled sharp price hikes in structural panels. OSB
buyers showed an increased sense of urgency as order files extended,
and prices in all producing regions posted double-digit increases. A
scramble for coverage ensued in Southern Pine plywood amid depleted
inventories and dwindling supplies of quicker shipments. Trading in
western Fir plywood was steady from Tuesday on. The ongoing strength
surprised traders, who struggled to recall a January like this one.
