Random Lengths Lumber Market
Report
Trading in framing lumber was seasonally
measured, but by many accounts more active than
usual for the time of year. A mix of price
trends developed, as well. But even among some
of the softening in prices, traders reported an
increase in liquidity compared with the previous
several weeks. Southern Pine was a primary
exception, as sales in all zones quieted. Wintry
weather in the Northeast and Midwest had a
cooling effect on Southern Pine, and Eastern
S-P-F as well.

Random Lengths Panel Market Report
Structural panel sales were measured, but outpaced many traders’
expectations for the time of year. OSB prices were firm to higher in
most producing regions, as mill order files extended into January at
most plants. Southern Pine plywood sales were steadier than
expected. Lean inventories and tight supplies spurred moderate
activity. Buyers mostly purchased fill-in volumes. Western Fir
plywood trading was steady throughout the week. While far from
robust, traders noted December has been more active than usual.
