Random Lengths Lumber Market
Report
The recent lull in framing lumber markets
prompted producers to probe more aggressively
for orders. Yet they did so selectively, and
prices retreated unevenly. A pickup in sales on
Thursday helped many sellers finish the week on
firmer footing, while buyers sometimes lamented
an inability to replenish at lower targeted
levels. Early losses easily outweighed any
late-week bounce-back in prices, and the Random
Lengths Framing Lumber Composite finished with a
$9 loss, at $405.

Random Lengths Panel Market Report
Structural panel prices faded. The approach of Hurricane Harvey
toward the Texas coast distracted trading. The length of mill order
files went a long way in determining price movement in OSB.
Producers in the North Central region and Eastern Canada reported
order files well into September, and prices were firm to slightly
higher. Sheathing prices in Southern Pine plywood markets stabilized
late Thursday, after buyers stepped into the market earlier to take
advantage of some hefty discounting by a few producers. Western Fir
plywood trading got off to a slow start Monday, and failed to kick
into a high gear.
