Random Lengths Lumber Market
Report
Frenzied trading in many framing lumber species
the past several weeks transitioned into a
calmer pace. Double-digit price increases gave
way to smaller gains in Coast species, while
discounts cropped up in Canadian S-P-F and
Southern Pine. Buyers digested recent purchases
made at historically higher and even record
prices, and adopted a cautious approach on new
orders, especially among mills boasting order
files into late August. The Random Lengths
Framing Lumber Composite Price slipped $1, to
$427.

Random Lengths Panel Market Report
Structural panel prices were firm to higher amid conservative
trading. Mill sales of OSB were sparse, often due to extended order
files. A number of mills, especially in northern markets, pushed
files into September. Most Southern Pine plywood traders noted a
subdued pace, but steady sales were reported. 15/32-inch rated
sheathing remained the most sought after item, and prices were firm
to slightly higher. Traders looking for the western Fir plywood
market to crack open were disappointed.
