Report
Holidays in the U.S. and Canada, and Tuesday’s
Fourth of July in particular, created a
disjointed week of trading, with plenty of
absences throughout to go along with it.
Nonetheless, last week’s stronger finish in many
species gave producers the impetus to hold to
their quotes until traders filtered back into
their offices. Sales picked up in many species
starting Wednesday, and were generally more
active on Thursday. This gave the overall market
a firm to stronger tone, although Southern Pine
remained a key exception.

Random Lengths Panel Market Report
Shipping delays and holiday-related interruptions distracted
structural panel trading. Tight supplies of OSB supported firm to
higher prices amid sparse trading throughout North America. An
uneven sales pace followed the Fourth of July holiday in Southern
Pine plywood. A number of traders remained out of their offices
after taking Monday and Tuesday off. The trading pace in western Fir
plywood backed off considerably compared to last week, owing to both
the market calming down after the veneer plant dryer fire and the
choppy holiday week.
