Random Lengths Lumber Market
Report
An active framing lumber market early in the
week turned frenetic Thursday as angst over
anticipated duties on Canadian exports to the
U.S. set off the futures market and sent cash
buyers scrambling to cover their needs with mill
offerings for April shipments. One Canadian
producer’s announcement that it was hiking
quotes for May shipment by about 30% to recoup
expected losses stemming from duties was the
catalyst. Upward surges in prices of various
species pushed the Random Lengths Framing Lumber
Composite Price up $12 for the week, to $414.

Random Lengths Panel Market Report
Structural panel markets were active, and most prices posted
gains. Activity in OSB wasn’t as frenetic as many framing lumber
markets, but another strong week of sales kept producers in the
driver’s seat. Sales were once again strongest in the West. Demand
for Southern Pine plywood was steady for most of the week, but an
overall moderate sales pace limited upward price pressure. Rated
sheathing was mostly flat. Western Fir plywood trading picked up
noticeably on Thursday after a steady start to the week.
