Random Lengths Lumber Market
Report
While lagging the pace of the February run,
trading in framing lumber picked up, giving
mills enough business to extend order files and
raise prices. Trading in Southern Pine, a
laggard in recent weeks compared to other
species, kicked into a higher gear. Double-digit
discounting seen in previous weeks dried up, as
secondaries stepped in amid increased inquiries
from large retail chains. An early week jump in
futures helped prime a steady flow of sales at
Canadian S-P-F mills. The Random Lengths Framing
Lumber Composite Price posted a $2 gain to
finish at $398.

Random Lengths Panel Market Report
Structural panel trading was mixed. After a quiet start to the
week, OSB sales picked up and allowed producers to hold quotes close
to last week’s reported levels. Small increases were reported in the
North Central, Southeast, and Mid-Atlantic regions. A number of
Southern Pine plywood mills took hefty discounts on rated sheathing
as trading started the week on a slow crawl. Lower asking levels
generated more sales. A steady week of sales developed in western
Fir plywood, as buyers stepped in to cover immediate needs.
