Prices of framing lumber weakened by varying
degrees. Trading ranged from a standoff between
buyers and sellers, such as in green Douglas
Fir, to a free-fall, as was the case in Western
S-P-F. A second week of sharp double-digit drops
in the latter left some key prices at about at
50% retracement from the peaks of their recent
run. Southern Pine prices faded, as mill
surpluses mounted amid muted demand. The Random
Lengths Framing Lumber Composite Price shed $5
for the week, finishing at $402, still $80
higher than the same week a year ago.

Random Lengths Panel Market Report
Structural panel prices faded amid lukewarm trading. A
two-tiered market developed in OSB, as secondaries garnered much of
the week’s business. Mill sales were sparse; producers in most
regions quoted order files into late March or later and held asking
levels firm. Southern Pine plywood retailers and distributors were
busy, as the Southeast experienced warm weather. Even so, the
activity wasn’t enough to keep mill prices from softening. Western
Fir plywood trading held at a quiet pace, as buyers and mills
struggled to find common ground.
