Uneventful trading left most framing lumber
prices close to previously established and
reported levels. Traders drifted back to their
offices Monday and Tuesday, with buyers slow to
circulate new inquiries. Weather was a key
factor. Wintry weather dulled demand in the
Midwest and Northeast, while snow and ice in
parts of the Northwest sapped demand and created
transportation problems. Many buyers spent time
chasing previously placed orders. Mill output
was also affected, and some late shipping
emerged.

Random Lengths Panel Market Report
Structural panel markets were mixed. OSB sales were hit and miss
coming out of the holidays, with winter weather playing a role in
mills’ volumes for the week. Trading in the South was slow and
conservative. Southern Pine plywood trading was fairly active to
start the week, but dwindled as mills firmed prices and colder
weather affected demand in some markets. The pace in western Fir
plywood picked up as traders returned to their offices, but it was
far from robust. Order files at mills varied.
