Sales of framing lumber were sluggish overall,
but price trends were mixed. Softness was noted
in Western S-P-F and Southern Pine, while prices
in the West were mostly firm to slightly higher.
Weakness was often seen on developing loads that
mills wanted to move before year-end. Two-tiered
pricing was evident in Western S-P-F.
Wholesalers worked hard to pare their offerings,
as several mills developed loadings for
immediate shipment. Southern Pine trading
stalled, with the holidays and cold weather in
the Northeast and Midwest slowing activity.

Random Lengths Panel Market Report
A holiday mode was clearly evident in structural panel markets.
OSB sales slowed in the second half of the week, but prices
maintained a firm to higher track in all producing regions. The
coming holiday weekend slowed Southern Pine plywood sales in most
regions. Traders, however, found buyers seeking prompt fill-in loads
or others willing to purchase loads for shipment in the new year.
Western Fir plywood trading was active to start the week, but slowed
as the holidays drew closer.
