While trading in Canadian S-P-F got a shot in
the arm on Tuesday, caution prevailed overall in
framing lumber markets. Prices of the upper
grades in all species finished lower. Seasonal
softening was a factor, but traders also cited
concern about the U.S.-Canada trade issue.
Meanwhile, U.S. and Canadian traders alike
looked forward to putting next week’s U.S.
presidential election behind them. Led by drops
in western species and Southern Pine, the Random
Lengths Framing Lumber Composite Price fell $5.

Random Lengths Panel Market Report
Structural panel sales picked up modestly, but it wasn’t enough
to stem the downward tide in prices. Although the pace of OSB sales
improved from the previous week, discounts remained available in
many producing regions. Dealers and distributors across North
America trimmed inventories. While Southern Pine plywood prices
continued to erode, several traders reported a better volume of
sales. Western Fir plywood business was solid, but supply
outstripped demand and prices gave ground.
