Sales of framing lumber were stronger than
expected for many traders who came into the week
wary of a post-Fourth of July lull. Buyers in
all regions steadily covered needs, including
the South where heat and humidity failed to
stifle demand for replacement purchases. An
annual industry get-together in Idaho pulled a
number of traders out of their offices late in
the week. All told, upticks in key prices pushed
the Random Lengths Framing Lumber Composite
Price up $3 for the week to $352.

Random Lengths Panel Market Report
Structural panel prices posted gains amid mixed trends in
trading. OSB prices increased across the board, but the gains varied
by region. While activity was strong across all producing regions,
price jumps were sharpest in Western Canada. Southern Pine plywood
sales slowed in comparison with previous weeks, as the market worked
through purchases made earlier. Western Fir plywood trading was
steady throughout the week. Prices continued to rise, although not
as sharply in sheathing as was seen in recent weeks.
