For much of the week, framing lumber markets
muddled along at a pedestrian pace. That changed
Thursday when a limit-up move in futures pulled
buyers off the sidelines. Sales picked up most
notably in Western and Eastern S-P-F, while
carryover into other species was mixed. In the
West, inquiries for Coast dry framing picked up,
but sales didn’t always follow suit. Southern
Pine traders were wary, as they weighed mixed
signals. Despite the S-P-F rally, the Random
Lengths Framing Lumber Composite fell $3.

Random Lengths Panel Market Report
Structural panel prices were flat to down amid lukewarm demand.
In OSB markets, price erosion that began in Western Canada spread to
other regions across North America. Some producers opened to deep
counters to sell loads available for quick shipment. Southern Pine
rated sheathing prices eased lower amid sporadic trading. Mills
accepted modest counters when those transactions helped them clear
loads for shipment next week. Sales of western Fir plywood held to a
steady pace. Some producers tried pushing quotes higher on some
items but got mixed results.
