U.S.: Lumber and panel market report ---- Week 21 2016

Random Lengths Lumber Market Report

Bracketed by holidays in Canada and the U.S., softwood lumber trading was uneventful. More news breaking on fire season in Canada, this time in Ontario, gave the market a mild jolt at midweek; sales perked up for some mills on Thursday, but the week’s overall pace was measured. While residual strength from the recent market rally kept modest upward pressure on some prices, many others were unchanged from the previous week and a few cracks developed as well.

Random Lengths Panel Market Report
Structural panel sales were active. OSB producers in most regions maintained lengthy order files and had few open-market offerings. Price increases were limited mostly to the Southeast. Most Southern Pine plywood mills reached the long weekend with order files into June. Contract loads and next week’s short workweek made it easier for producers to reach the week of June 6. Trading in western Fir plywood was more active than many traders anticipated, in large part due to end users buying on a hand-to-mouth basis.
