Price trends of the previous two weeks
persisted, with Canadian S-P-F and western
species strengthening and Southern Pine
weakening. Sales overall tapered from the pace
of recent weeks, and a larger degree of caution
was noted by many traders in the week’s latter
half. Nonetheless, most producers were fortified
with solid order files — some extending to or
even through mid-June. Any notion that producers
outside the Southern Pine region were growing
vulnerable was widely dismissed.

Random Lengths Panel Market Report
Structural panel sales were a mixed bag. OSB mill sales slowed
as buyers confronted extended order files and prices that
represented three-year highs. Sales shifted to the secondary market,
where distributors and reloads offered quicker shipments. Southern
Pine plywood prices were in a holding pattern as mill output roughly
balanced with sales. Demand at the retail level was heavy to mixed
loads that could ship quickly. Trading in western Fir plywood was
measured, but sales picked up later in the week.
