While a measured pace prevailed through
Wednesday, trading in framing lumber picked up
steam on Thursday. One catalyst was a strong
upward move in futures, although the impact on
the cash market was uneven. Another key to the
pickup was the approach of spring; many
producers took a firmer stance on pricing on the
premise that customers’ needs would increase
with the arrival of milder weather. The late
activity helped to nudge up the Random Lengths
Framing Lumber Composite Price for a fifth
straight week.
