U.S.: Lumber and panel market report ---- Week 4 2016

Random Lengths Lumber Market Report

Traders across the distribution system were happy to see January pass. But for the first time since the holidays buyers showed a keen interest in mill offerings. Sales that developed on Wednesday lifted many framing lumber prices off the week’s lows. As some markets sprung to life, others remained dull, especially those hit with recent wintry weather. Inconsistent sales were also evident among mills in the same producing regions, with one result being larger-than-usual price spreads.

Random Lengths Panel Market Report
Structural panel sales were a grind. OSB buyers remained wary of the calendar and broader economic trends. Concerns in Texas about oil prices weighed on buyers there, quieting phones at Southwest mills. After a slow start, Southern Pine plywood mills pulled customers off the sidelines Wednesday with the help of sharp discounts. Razor-thin inventories and the approach of spring were additional considerations for buyers. Western Fir plywood sales were mixed and uneven.
