Random Lengths Lumber Market Report

While the sales pace varied, a stronger pulse was observed by many framing lumber traders as the week progressed. Some mills had excesses to clean up and were open to small counters, but others pushed order files into January and took firmer approaches in quoting customers. Unseasonably mild weather in the East and Southeast kept wood flowing through the pipeline, and buyers were forced to replenish inventories they had anticipated would carry them through year-end. Gainers outnumbered losers and the Random Lengths Framing Lumber Composite Price ticked up another $2.

Random Lengths Panel Market Report
Structural panel trading picked up momentum. Strong housing starts news, unseasonably warm weather, and thin inventories pulled OSB buyers into the market. Prices adjusted in both directions as producers offered loads still available for shipment in December. Southern Pine plywood prices tilted upward in steady trading, and traders were upbeat about near-term prospects. Action in western Fir plywood markets picked up markedly around Tuesday and built through Thursday, prompting mills to raise quotes throughout the week.
