Report
Framing lumber sales picked up following the holiday break, but
ample mill offerings kept a lid on upside price pressure. Slack sales to
China left more production available for the domestic market to absorb.
A few more producers announced market-related downtime, but traders
looked for more curtailments to balance supplies with demand. A firming
trend developed in Std&Btr, #2&Btr, and studs after early week
discounting. The Random Lengths Framing Lumber Composite Price, however,
slipped $4, to $294.

Random Lengths Panel Market Report
Structural panel trading was mundane in the holiday-shortened week.
Modest production cutbacks supported firm to higher prices in OSB
markets. Mill order files commonly reached the last two weeks of
September. Some Southern Pine plywood purchasing took place as
traders returned from the holiday, but the sales pace was
unremarkable. Buyers stepped in only when they had to, and then
purchased small volumes. The western Fir plywood market got off to a
slow start. Prices were flat to down.
