Report
Sales were muddled as September got underway. Buyers approached
the market cautiously, holding to the belief that the market was
oversupplied. Traders listened for curtailments as some producers said
prices at their mills were close to break-even levels. Vaagen Brothers’
stud mill in Washington temporarily shut down, and Interfor cut its
production in the South by 20%; both producers cited market conditions
in their announcements. Sales were heavy to specified loads that could
ship quickly.

Random Lengths Panel Market Report
Structural panel prices inched higher amid modest sales. Between
extended mill order files and production issues at several plants,
OSB offerings from producers were limited. Southern Pine plywood
producers marked a quiet week of sales, but prices held to a firm
footing. Order files were mostly into the weeks of September 14 or
21. Western Fir plywood sales were mixed, but generally proceeded at
a subdued and steady pace. Orders were placed on both sides of
Midweek’s published levels, and prices overall finished flat.
