U.S.: Lumber and panel market report ---- Week 34 2015

Random Lengths Lumber Market Report
Framing lumber producers struggled to keep sales on pace with production. The early week meltdown in global financial markets took a toll, although the shock had worn off by late in the week after the U.S. stock market rallied. Wood products traders widely surmised that declining sales to offshore markets left too much production for the North American markets to absorb. The imbalance left prices in several species in full retreat. The Framing Lumber Composite Price fell $10, to $309.

Random Lengths Panel Market Report
Structural panel prices maintained an upward trajectory. The steady upward climb in OSB prices remained intact, even if activity was less than robust. Lumber and financial markets were a drag on traders’ attitudes, but healthy order files allowed producers to nudge prices higher. Last week’s brisk trading gave way to a more moderate pace in Southern Pine plywood. But sheathing prices continued to gain. Western Fir plywood sales also failed to match last week’s pace, but prices were on solid footing and crept up on momentum from the recent activity.
