Report
Uncertainty about near-term sales prospects was pervasive,
leading buyers to approach the market with caution. Some stuck to the
sidelines, awaiting a clearer indication of the market’s next move.
Higher volumes expected to ship stateside from Canada, the strength of
the U.S. dollar that hindered offshore sales, and oppressive heat that
shortened job site hours were variously cited as reasons for the
market’s lethargy. Wholesalers saw little news that would encourage long
positions, and usually worked back-to-back.

Random Lengths Panel Market Report
Structural panel trading was mixed. Sales of OSB picked up
appreciably Wednesday and Thursday, allowing producers to firm
quotes and book at higher levels for the first time since mid-June.
Western Fir plywood prices fell to levels that buyers felt more
comfortable with at midweek, prompting several to step off the
sidelines. The stronger sales pace in OSB and western plywood didn’t
carry over to Southern Pine. Field inventories were light, but
buyers felt no urgency to do more than fill in.
