Domestic Log Prices

Brazil

Demand for wood products in the domestic market remains steady and unchanged however; prices have been slightly affected by higher log costs. In particular the firm demand of pine logs for solid wood export-oriented products, coupled with low supplies lifted prices. In the case of tropical logs, prices have gone up due to log shortages because the rain season has arrived and harvesting is limited. The increase in log prices will probably influence domestic wood product prices for the next month.

Export prices for solid wood products have increased, pulled up by the continuing high demand in the US but Brazilian producers could not enjoy the benefits of the increases as higher freight costs eroded the returns.
